Yafa Foundation established a partnership with The American University of Beirut to offer several ongoing scholarships and academic awards for Palestinians and academic achievers.
The Shireen Abu Akleh Scholarship: Established through a full partnership between Yafa Foundation and the American University of Beirut, the Shireen Abu Akleh Endowed Memorial Scholarship is a fully-funded scholarship honouring the memory of slain journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. The scholarship supports Palestinian women interested in pursuing a master’s degree in media studies at AUB.
Eligible candidates must:
– hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized academic institution.
– have at least two years of experience in journalism, communication, or media production, including one year of field reporting experience.
– have a strong academic record.
– be able to demonstrate financial need.
– have a research interest related to the Palestinian cause.
-commit to live and/or work in Palestine after completing her master’s degree.
The Nizar Banat Scholarship: Established through a full partnership between the American University of Beirut and the Yafa Foundation, the Nizar Banat Memorial Scholarship is a fully-funded scholarship honoring the life and legacy of slain Palestinian human rights activist Nizar Banat (1978-2021). The scholarship will fully support the tuition as well as related educational and living expenses for an undergraduate Palestinian student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political studies at AUB. Eligible candidates for the Nizar Banat Memorial Scholarship must:
– have a strong academic record.
– be able to demonstrate financial need.
The Rouzan Al-Najjar Awards: In honour of Razan Al Najjar, who was killed by an Israeli sniper on the borders of Gaza while volunteering as a medic in 2018, the Yafa Foundation established the Razan Al-Najjar Awards for Excellence at the American University of Beirut’s Nursing School. Every year, three nursing students will be recognized and rewarded for their academic and humanitarian achievements.
